ShapeReach View / STEP
A free STEP viewer in your browser.
Open STEP files (.step and .stp) right in your browser, with the assembly’s parts, colours and edges. Nothing to install, no account, and the file stays on your own computer.

About the STEP format
STEP is an international standard (ISO 10303) for exchanging 3D models between CAD programs. Almost every CAD program can save as STEP, and the format is used when parts and assemblies are sent to customers, suppliers and workshops.
A STEP file stores the model’s exact geometry: surfaces, edges and solids, not just a triangle mesh. It can also hold the assembly’s structure with parts and subassemblies, colours and the unit the model was drawn in.
What the viewer shows
- Exact 3D geometry, computed with OpenCascade right in your browser
- The assembly’s parts in a list, where you can hide and show them one by one
- Colours from the file and the model’s true edges
- Sections, measuring between points and exploded views of assemblies
- Size, volume and surface area in the unit the file was saved in
How to open a STEP file
Open the viewer
Press “Open a STEP file”. The viewer opens with a sample assembly.
Pick the file
Press Open and choose the file, or drag the file into the viewer.
View and measure
Rotate with the mouse, and use Section and Measure for sections and measurements.
Good to know
An assembly whose parts are in separate files has to be opened part by part. The viewer says which files are involved.
Dimensions and tolerances stored in the file (PMI) are not shown.
Large assemblies can take a while to open, because the geometry is computed on your own computer.
Questions and answers
What is the difference between .step and .stp?
None. They are two file extensions for the same format, and the viewer opens both.
Can I open a STEP file from my CAD program?
Yes. Choose STEP (.step or .stp) under Save As or Export in your CAD program, and open the file here.
How do I show a model to someone without a CAD program?
Save the model as STEP and send the file. The recipient can open it here in the browser without installing anything.
